September! This is a month for new beginnings. For some children it is the start of a new school year. For me, it is the start of feeling more confident as an artist and video maker. And… I just learned that September 1 is “Creation Day” and the beginning of the Season of Creation which lasts until October 4!

Finished Reading This Month

✓ Art Memoir: A Memoir of Vincent Van Gogh, by Jo Van Gogh-Bonger
The sister-in-law of Vincent Van Gogh inherited his letters and over 300 paintings after he and his brother passed away within a few months of each other. This memoir was written as an introduction to a collection of his letters.
Update: Actually, this is more of a biography than a memoir. It is mainly about Vincent, written by Jo. She met him a few times within a few months of his death. Nonetheless, she did a fantastic job of writing about him from all that she learned from her husband and Vincent’s friends and other family members. Review

✓ Fiction: Perestroika in Paris, by Jane Smiley
A diversion with a talking horse. I’m reading this to take a break from Les Misérables!!! So happy to have finished this, on Sept. 23. Review

✓ Nonfiction: The Gift of Fear, by Gavin de Becker
Finished it on September 23. Review

✓ Historical Fiction: The Secret Life of Sunflowers, by Marta Molnar
This is about Jo Van Gogh, who owned and sold the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh after he passed away… and his brother Theo passed away soon after that. Theo was Jo’s husband. I’m reading this with two other Booktubers. UPDATE: I finished reading this on September 15. Review
What I’m Reading Now

★ History: The Great Bridge, by David McCullough
This is the book we’re reading this month for the McCullough Readalong.

★ Christian Nonfiction: The Lord, by Romano Guardini
This is an examination of the life of Jesus Christ. I’m reading this with friends on a theology Discord group.

★ Classic Fiction: Les Misérables, by Victor Hugo
I may be the slowest reader of Les Miserables in the history of mankind, but I do still occasionally pick it up and when I do, I enjoy reading it. As of September I’m nearly halfway through this lengthy novel.

★ Art: The World of Urban Sketching, by Stephanie Bower
Because… ART. I love urban sketching! There’s a Booktube event this month to read books about art!

★ Fiction: Brave Intuitive Painting, by Flora Bowley
More art! Reading for the “Framed in September” Booktube event.

★ Christian Nonfiction: Clinging to Hope, by Charles R. Swindoll
I’ve rekindled an interest in reading this book. I have four or five more chapters to read.
My September 2024 Reading Diary
September 1 – This is a great time to be reading! … I honestly didn’t read much today but I did go to the Bigfoot Jamboree to listen to Frankie Hernandez sing. Earlier in the day I started reading The Great Bridge… I got part way through chapter one.
Not my video – but here’s what someone else saw at the Bigfoot Jamboree.
This video is about a Booktube event called “Framed in September.”
Here’s my review of The Johnstown Flood.
September 7 – I’m not even 1/2 way through Les Misérables, and I had to make a video. This month I’m taking a “book vacation” away from this classic. It is long and intense.
September 10 – Today I was thinking about Psalm 1.
September 18 – I finally got the full set of the Missing 411 books, and made an unboxing video about them.
September 28 – Busy month!! That’s all I’m saying.
