So many words, so little time

October 10, 2008 By Linda Jo Martin 2 Comments

There’s so much to write about and so little time to just sit at the computer and get it all out. I love so much to feel that roar of satisfaction after writing something. I feel that most when I’ve just written great fiction. But how often does that happen for me anymore? I’m focused on writing non-fiction because that’s what is currently earning me some money.

August 26, 2008 By Linda Jo Martin Leave a Comment

Yes, I’m one of those people that can’t stop at just two revisions. I’m about to start the sixth and want to thank my dear critique group for giving me new ideas on how to make the novel better.

2008 Muse Online Writer’s Conference

August 5, 2008 By Linda Jo Martin 5 Comments

Here it comes – once again – the wonderful online writer’s conference planned and coordinated by amazing Lea Schizas. This is the conference’s third year – and the first year I’m offering a workshop there. In fact, it is the first time I’ve offered a workshop anywhere, so I’m really excited (and apprehensive) about this.

Rejection: It’s Not Personal

April 4, 2008 By Linda Jo Martin 2 Comments

Remember this always: when you get a rejection from an editor – it isn’t personal. It isn’t about you. Manuscripts get rejected, not people, and there are dozens of reasons why that happens. Here are a few of the most common:

From the White Light

Sunburst - links to a flash fiction short story: From the White Light by Linda Jo Martin

I’ve decided to add a flash fiction section to this website. I write a lot of flash fiction during my daily practice writing sessions, and can’t see that I’ll ever have any opportunity to sell it unless I publish it as a collection someday. In the meantime, I’ll post some of my little stories (500 words or less) here. Here’s one I wrote a few days ago. The prompt was to “write about something white”.

Practice Writing Daily for Creative Development

February 15, 2008 By Linda Jo Martin 6 Comments

Everyone needs a creative outlet – even those who don’t think they do. It is part of being human. For many of us, writing is that opportunity to share a bit of our hearts with the world.

Haight-Ashbury Retrospective

February 14, 2008 By Linda Jo Martin 1 Comment

One of my novels is about a girl who lived in the Haight-Ashbury during the sixties, so I regularly do research on everything having to do with the hippie movement. The novel, Far Out: The Journey to Oblivion…, is one I intend to revise during the next year or two. I wrote it in 2004.

Writing Festival Friday #8 – Evaluation Time

November 9, 2007 By Linda Jo Martin 5 Comments

I’ve been doing the Writing Festival Friday postings for eight weeks now, and have taken time to evaluate what I’m doing here with this blog event project. First let me say the best part of all this has been in doing the interviews and meeting writers who are new to me.

About Me

Hi, I'm Linda, the Book Lady, and I'm excited about reading. A book is a gift you give yourself. It is so much fun to open that cover and discover what was hidden within. Books share the wisdom of the ages with us. Who wouldn't want that? So I read frequently and encourage reading. If you're a reader, let me know by becoming my friend on GoodReads.

My novel, River Girl, is about a girl living in the Klamath River Valley.

All about Linda's Life.
