August! This month reminds me of people who have birthdays, especially some people very dear to me that have August birthdays! I’m thinking of my oldest daughter! My granddaughter! And I’m thinking of Dennis, who is no longer with us. ::sad:: But let’s celebrate the living, and Lord, I ask you to bless them all.

Challenges
1. Reading Books I Already Own – During 2025 I commit to reading books I’ve already bought, and not buying more… hopefully, for the most part. Progress: 15/100
2. The David McCullough Reading Challenge continues, even if I’m the only one doing it. Courage! I’m still reading Truman which is his longest book. It is fascinating to get this chance to know about Truman, a president I didn’t know much of before. He was an honorable man.
3. The Visual Theology Christian Reading Challenge – 41/73 – the poster is available from the Visual Theology website.
4. The 2025 Biblical Studies Challenge – this challenge asks us to read one book monthly on a topic one would study if lucky enough to attend a Bible college. The August topic is Discipleship.
Finished Reading This Month

✓ Biography: Truman, by David McCullough
This book is for the McCullough Readalong. I’m a little behind schedule because this book was supposed to be finished according to my schedule, but oh well, I have a few chapters left to finish. It is a long, long book. His longest. Over 900 pages. I’m getting there. Soon enough.
Update: Finished August 26. It was an extremely long book, but worth reading. Review
Reading Intentions

★ Christian: The Master Plan of Discipleship, by Dr. Robert Coleman
I’m reading this for the Biblical Studies Challenge.

★ English: Vocabulary From Classical Roots, by Fifer & Flowers
I’m improving my vocabulary by learning more about Greek and Roman root words. I really enjoy reading this book and learning the root words. Sometimes there are words presented that I’m not familiar with, so that’s a bonus!

★ Computers: Co-Intelligence, by Ethan Mollick
My brother recommended this so I can learn more about AI. I read the first chapter last month and need to get back into it.

★ Classic Fiction: Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes
This is the first classic novel I need to read for my classical education project. I’ve read some of this before. Unfortunately I quit after about 300 pages because it seemed repetitious and I couldn’t love the stupidity of the main character. However, I’ve always wanted to give it another try, especially since I’m more devoted to reading now than I was then.
Did Not Finish – aka: DNF
Nothing DNF’ed yet during August.
My August 2025 Reading Diary
August 1 – August is a sunny, sunny month. I wonder if my desire to make videos will come back to me. Time will tell.
August 9 – I drove to the city yesterday for a doctor appointment (and I’m fine, it is nothing to worry about) … and along the way I listened to audiobooks! I love doing that. It makes me want to take a day every week just for driving and listening to books being read to me. Right now I’m listening to an audio copy of Don Quixote (I also bought the Kindle version). I’m enjoying it quite a bit. It is a great narration and makes me enjoy the story so much more than last time I read it.

August 10 – Happy Sunday! I watched the worship service at Calvary Albuquerque today. There was a wonderful sermon by Pastor Skip about Nehemiah 9 and five elements of effective prayer.
