January is here and still we haven’t had any snow on my Northern California river valley homesite. This is very unusual, but to be honest, I’m not a big fan of snow so I consider it a blessing.

Word of the Month
Organization (This is my 2026 “word of the year” because I think more organization will benefit every aspect of my life. I want to keep this thought in front of me.)
Bible Verse of the Month
For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people.” – (1 Corinthians 14:33 NLT)

Finished Reading in January

✓ Classic Juvenile Fiction: Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson
I liked this much more than I expected to. Review.

✓ Classic Romance: The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, by Anne Brontë
Wonderful classic novel. I liked this much better than Wuthering Heights! Review.

✓ Christian Fiction: If I Were You, by Lynn Austin
I read this with the Sisters in Christ Book Club. Review.
Reading Intentions

★ Christian Devotional: Streams in the Desert, by LB Cowman
This will be my 2026 devotional.
Classical Education Study Projects

★ Classic Christian Memoir: Confessions, by Augustine
I’m reading this for my classic Christian literature studies and for the classical education project.

★ Classic Fiction: Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes
This is a long-term study project. I’m reading it for classical education, and doing a deep-dive using a study guide and taking notes. I’ve made some progress in learning to take chapter notes and am enjoying the story. This is quite a long book (800 pages) but I expect I’ll get through it this time, eventually. I’m not hurrying through it. I read only two chapters daily.

★ Classic Fiction: The Three Musketeers, by Alexandre Dumas
I’m participating in a buddy read via Goodreads for this book in Jan/Feb ’26. It also qualifies as part of my classical education project. I read one chapter daily which is about all I can take of D’Artagnan! I’m hoping to warm up to the character eventually, but the first few chapters are not promising.
Did Not Finish – aka: DNF
No DNF’s yet in January.
As of this month I will no longer have a diary section at the end of my monthly book posts. I’m discontinuing it because I rarely use it. However, if I have anything more to say about anything, I’ll write it down here. It just won’t be in a diary-type format.
