July 2 at 12 noon is the midpoint of the year! Amazing to realize we’re already halfway through 2026. My reading is slowing a bit because of the summer heat and gardening. But I carry on.

Reading Intentions
Here are a few books I’m currently reading and making progress on.
★ Fiction: Tortilla Flat, by John Steinbeck
Honestly, I’ve started reading this but I’m not loving it. I hope the characters make some positive changes because right now they are pathetic and bordering on completely evil. I have a strong preference for likable main characters, and these guys don’t qualify.
★ Essays: Slouching Toward Bethlehem, by Joan Didion
Ahhhh, this is much more my style. I’m enjoying the essays. Most of these essays are articles the author wrote for magazines in the 1960’s. Fascinating stuff here.
★ History: The Wright Brothers, by David McCullough
I’m still reading this. It is very interesting but as with all David McCullough history books, it is heavy with facts and information, and a bit of a challenge to sift through.
★ Art: Perspective Made Easy, by Ernest R. Norling
This is my second try at getting through this book that really, to be honest, goes over my head at times. But I’m going to keep on reading because I hope something will “click” and I’ll learn to draw buildings with better perspective.

★ Art: Art Studio Secrets: More Than 300 Tools and Techniques to Inspire Creativity, by Marjorie Sarnat
This book lists a lot of art techniques the author has tried out. Something for everyone! Almost all words; few illustrations.

No DNF’s yet in July.
As of January I no longer have a diary section at the end of my monthly book posts. I discontinued it because I rarely use it. However, if I have anything more to say about anything, I’ll write it down here. It just won’t be in a diary-type format.
