Reading in the month of May… that is what this page is about. Aside from reading I’ll be watering my garden. This year I’m propagating roses in anticipation of creating a little rose garden.

Word of the Month
Grace
Bible Verses of the Month
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” – Paul (Ephesians 2:8-10 NKJV)

Finished Reading in May

✓ History: The King and Queen of Malibu, by David K. Randall
I’m reading this with my “California Reading” group on Goodreads. UPDATE: Finished this 5/17/26 and really liked it. I learned a lot about Southern California history. Review.

✓ Art: Draw Your Day: An Inspiring Guide to Keeping a Sketch Journal, by Samantha Dion Baker
What a great idea! Sketches to illustrate a day. I gave it a try. I’ll surely try more in days to come. Update: finished 5/2/26… loved and appreciated. Here’s my review.

✓ Psychological Fiction: The Café on the Edge of the World, by John Strelecky
Someone recommended this book to me, but I’m half-way through a 2 hour audiobook and so far, I can’t claim to be a big fan. Maybe the second half of the book will win me over. Update: Finished late on 5/1/26. Worth reading! My review.
Reading Intentions
Here are a few books I’m currently reading and making progress on.

★ History: The Wright Brothers, by David McCullough
I have only two more books to read for my David McCullough reading challenge, and this is one of them.

★ Classic Fiction: The Three Musketeers, by Alexandre Dumas
This qualifies as part of my classical education project. I’m nearly done reading this awful book. I’m not a fan because the 4 main characters are pathetic sociopaths, but I’m determined to finish it anyway because it is a classic. Side note: When I was a child my favorite candy bar was Three Musketeers. Now that I’ve read most of this book, I wish it had been something else. Oh well. I had an appointment to meet this book and now that I know more about it, I can give it a hearty one-star review when I get finished. I’ve heard that Dumas’ other famous novel is better. (The Count of Monte Cristo)

★ Christian Fiction: Eve’s Daughters, by Lynn Austin
My current audio-read because I enjoy the books of Lynn Austin.

★ Art: Perspective Made Easy, by Ernest R. Norling
This is my second try at getting through this book that really, to be honest, goes over my head at times. But I’m going to keep on reading because I hope something will “click” and I’ll learn to draw buildings with better perspective.
Not like this:

★ Art: Sketchbook Joy, by Katie Moody
I’ve just started reading this. Cute cover!

★ Art: Art Studio Secrets: More Than 300 Tools and Techniques to Inspire Creativity, by Marjorie Sarnat
This book lists a lot of art techniques the author has tried out. Something for everyone! Almost all words; few illustrations.
Did Not Finish – aka: DNF
No DNF’s yet in May.
As of January I no longer have a diary section at the end of my monthly book posts. I discontinued it because I rarely use it. However, if I have anything more to say about anything, I’ll write it down here. It just won’t be in a diary-type format.
