These are the books I’m hoping to read during the remainder of 2015, and on into 2016. As you’ll see they are mostly Christian non-fiction but I’m also planning to read books for novel research, and then there’s that video making book… I need to be able to make better videos.
This list contains the name of the book, and then the reason I want to read it. When I’ve done reading it, I will write a review, and link to it from this page. Probably the reviews will be posted to other sites, such as my Prayer Power site (for the Christian books) and to my Bennachti site for the rest.
Books in the Bible | |
This year I’m reading the prophetic books of the Old Testament from Isaiah to Malachi. | I will also read other parts of the Bible, but my focus will be on the prophetic books. I read slowly, and keep an index of topics which I add to as I read each day. It is like my own personal concordance. I will have to explain this in a blog post as it is too complicated to explain here. |
Bible Study Group Books
Know What You Believe by Paul Little & Know Why You Believe by Paul Little |
I’m reading these with my home group Bible study friends. |
Lord, Is It Warfare? Teach Me to Stand: A Devotional Study on Spiritual Victory by Kay Arthur |
This is for the women’s Bible study group I host. |
Devotional | |
Streams in the Desert: 366 Daily Devotional Readings by Mrs. Charles E. Cowman | My grandmother gave me this book when I was a child, and I’d like to get through it someday. |
Currently Reading | |
These are the books I’m focusing on now.
Forgive and Love Again: Healing Wounded Relationships by John W. Neider and Thomas M. Thompson | I’m currently reading this – almost half-way through. This is an excellent book! |
The Paleo Manifesto: Ancient Wisdom for Lifelong Health by John Durand | Awesome book. John Durand’s writing hovers between scholarly and highly readable. I’m learning a lot. |
Already Started | |
I have a habit of starting books without finishing so this is a list of partially read books I want to finish during 2015-2016.
Holy Spirit Power by Charles Spurgeon | I found this to be slow reading. I should probably start over and take notes. It is a short, thin book. |
Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine by Max Lucado | Excellent book! I’ve read a lot of this. Each chapter is an independent story. It won the Christian Book Award. |
Children of the Day: 1 & 2 Thessalonians by Beth Moore |
That’s right, it is Beth Moore. What’s not to love? I’ve got all the videos that go with this book. I’m only one week into it. |
Becoming a Woman of Grace: “Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, and therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you.” Isaiah 30:18 by Cynthia Heald | I’m about half-way through this and want to finish. |
The Holy Spirit Unleashed in You by Kay Arthur |
I found this book at my church’s bookstore. It is a series of simple daily lessons about the book of Acts. It will take me through the entire book of Acts in 13 weeks. Slow, but I’ll learn a lot along the way. I also bought the Inductive Study Bible that goes with it – the one you write in with symbols and colored pencils. |
A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah |
I’ve had this memoir for a long time – and it is a highly rated memoir, so I thought it would be a good one to review. I know I’ll love reading it, but I need to find the time. |
Eyewitness to History edited by John Carey |
I’ve been carrying this book around a long time and want to read it. It contains dozens of eyewitness statements about historic events. Novel research. |
The Barbary Coast: An Informal History of the San Francisco Underworld by Herbert Asbury |
Amazon posted a note at the top of the page saying I purchased that book in 2004. Oh no! Have I been planning and working on my Perfection novel 11 years already? I do have a first draft about 3/4 written now. |
The Tracker by Tom Brown Jr. |
I bought this book years ago and then my ex-boyfriend told me not to read it. That’s aggravating. Well, he’s not my b/f anymore so I’m going to read it. |
General TBR | |
These are books I have on hand, that I haven’t read yet. Must get to it.
Joni: An Unforgettable Story by Joni Eareckon Tada |
I have two copies of this book. You would think I might eventually get around to reading at least one of them! |
Praying God’s Word: Breaking Free from Spiritual Strongholds by Beth Moore |
I’m a Beth Moore fan. What else needs to be said? |
Nurturing a Heart of Humility: The Life of Mary (A Woman After God’s Own Heart) by Elizabeth George |
I picked this up at my church’s bookstore. I definitely want to be humble; I hope I am humble. Thought it would be good to read through this study on the life of Mary. I don’t know which Mary this is – there were so many of them. |
The Magnificent Vision: Seeing Yourself Through the Eyes of Christ by Lloyd John Ogilvie |
I do not even know where I got this book, but it is on my shelf so I want to read it. You see, I came here to Idaho with very few books after giving most of what I had to others in Happy Camp. Since then I’ve bought books at thrift shops and a yard sale, and a friend gave me a stack of Christian books. I have no idea where this one came from. |
Prodigals and Those Who Love Them: Words of Encouragement for Those Who Wait by Ruth Bell Graham |
I do know where I got this book. I went to a women’s retreat last Spring and the pastor’s wife gave this book to me after I told her my middle daughter has refused to talk to me for more than fifteen years. As I understand it, this is a book that comforts the parent, not one that tells how to get the child back in contact. I’ve prayed about this many times and believe God will change things only when the time is right. I trust Him to decide when that will be. |
Journey of Love by Penny Elder |
This should be at the top of the stack. It is a memoir written by one of the women who leads a Bible study I love to go to. |
Standing in the Shadow of Law Special Edition by Marilyn Harrison of Foster Parents Legal Solutions |
I am already reading this… a bit at a time. I’m reading it for my family rights website, FightCPS. |
How to Shoot Video That Doesn’t Suck: Advice to Make Any Amateur Look Like a Pro by Steve Stockman |
Well, the need for this is obvious. Last year I created a lot of videos that sucked so this year I want to learn how to make better videos. |
The Lost Continent of Mu by James Churchward |
I’m planning to read this as novel research – because my Antediluvian Adventures series are set in an ancient land that could have been Mu. |
The Children of Mu by James Churchward |
Just like the book above, this book is for novel research. |
That’s all, for now. I will not be able to read all these through in a year. I’m a slow reader and usually stay busy doing other things. But I do manage to get through books, a few pages at a time. My intent is to post reviews on my Bennachti Web Magazine site, or on Prayer Power, depending on the subject matter. Maybe even on this site. Time will tell.

Hi Linda, You’re like me, a frustrated artist, a book reviewer and prolific reader, and one with a bum foot. I hope your foot is better by now. I’ll still be hobbling around for a few weeks. You have a nice website. I’ll check back from time to time.
LJ Martin says
Hi Maria, good to see you here. My foot has healed, and I’m so glad I won’t have to sit around all summer again, like I did last year. Good things are happening. I will ride my bike again. And yes, as always I have a stack of books to read.
Beverly says
That is a lot of reading, and I thought my list was long. 🙂
Enjoy.
