Under the Tulip Tree, by Michelle Shocklee
I finished reading this novel. It is about a young woman living during the Great Depression years of the 1930’s. She takes on a job provided by the government. As a writer her mission is to interview former slaves. The woman she interviews is elderly, age 101. This is a dual timeline novel with scenes from the 1930’s and from the Civil War.
✓ 1. Flowers on the cover
Under the Magnolias, by T.I. Lowe

Touching! This is a YA coming of age story about a teenage girl in Central South Carolina who takes on a lot of heavy family responsibilities while living and working on a tobacco farm. Worth reading.

Her Mother’s Hope, by Francine Rivers
