Happy New Year! 2012! But we’re not all happy…. what to do?

January 1, 2012 By Linda Jo Martin Leave a Comment

We’ve waited a long time to find out what will happen in 2012. Well, it is here now… and I hope you’ve all had a happy new year and are ready for whatever comes.

We hear of dreaded events on the horizon, and fight back with our positive thoughts about the joy this life brings to us. It is true, the forces of evil have taken over this planet… but they can’t ruin things entirely. This earth brings a great deal of happiness along with the suffering evil-doers have inflicted. All we who have good intentions can do is to try our best to be a force of good while we’re still on earth. Whether that means smiling at a lonely person, or donating to the local soup kitchen, or serving with 100% of our lives and energies to help other people, there’s something we can do to make this world a better place.

Last night I watched 5 Days of War, a very sad movie about a five-day war in Georgia – that little country sandwiched between Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Iran on the eastern side of the Black Sea. The 2008 South Ossetia war, lasted only five days but devastated many residents of the northern part of Georgia. In the movie there are tiny villages bombed by airplanes, or surrounded by tanks and enemy forces. Many people died. Tragic!

How quickly life changed for those people – from joyous daily life, to destruction, pain, and heartache. All it took was a much stronger country with firepower that those poor villagers couldn’t in any way resist. Thus we see that dark forces have overtaken this world and caused much suffering. Let us not forget the USA’s contribution to the pain and devastation of people in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya! I am so ashamed of my country’s government for harming so many innocent people, and hope the people in those regions understand that many if not most Americans don’t approve of these hostile and aggressive military attacks on their people.

So long as there are manufacturers of military weaponry these wars and tragedies will continue. What can set the world straight again and bring safety and security to the people of this planet? I will leave you with that question and hope that during 2012 we can attain some clarity on how to proceed to bring the world back to sanity once again.
