Reading goals, challenges-to-self, and possibilities.
How we love reading! Right?
Here’s what I’m thinking about what I’ll be reading in 2026.
1. I’m planning to finish the David McCullough Readathon. I think everyone else quit, but I’m carrying on because after all, it was my goal in the first place to read all the books of David McCullough in the order in which he wrote them. Right now I’m on track and on time and up to date. The list ends this summer and for me, includes 2 re-reads and 3 books I’ve never read before.
2. I’m reading books suggested in 25 Books Every Christian Should Read. I may not agree with everything I read in literature suggested by this book, but I reserve my right to educate myself on what these writers were thinking about. Amen?
3. Literature suggested by the book, The Well-Educated Mind, by Susan Wise Bauer. I’ve read all the initial chapters of this book and now am going through her classical fiction reading list. I’ve already read some of these books. Right now I’m focused on Don Quixote.
4. A few other classics. In January I’m reading The Three Musketeers and in February I’ll be reading The Hunchback of Notre Dame. These are certain since I’ve arranged buddy-reads with others on Goodreads. Where I go from then I don’t know but I’ll take my cues from the classics list I’ve had on this blog for years.
5. A continuing series of fiction audiobooks to be selected whenever I need a new one to audio-read.
6. I’ll be reading group-read books suggested by the Sisters in Christ book club on Goodreads.
7. I’ve just purchased 1000 Books to Read Before You Die and will choose some books from that reference this year.
That’s all I’ve got planned for now. I’m looking forward to another year of reading.
